I received a 12 pack of the original flavor as a gift not too long ago and wanted to share my thoughts on them. I had originally intended to keep them as an but started using them as a quick breakfast instead.
The taste pretty good considering how many nutrients they pack in them. They do a good job of filling you up too, and the sort of tastes like cereal milk. They contain 20% of your daily nutritional requirements and pack over 400 kcal. in each bottle. I take one with me in the morning and drink it during my commute, but they’re also great after a good workout. For those who don’t have the time or just hate cooking, pretty much has the nutrients you need to get you through a meal. They currently average about $3 per bottle, which is a pretty reasonable cost for a meal. I once drank one later in the day when I hadn’t had anything to eat, and while I could have still ate something else afterward I didn’t feel like I needed to.
I didn’t try doing so myself, but you could also mix the original flavor with a or just add some fruit to them to make your own flavors. They’re good enough on their own though, but I’d recommend keeping them in the fridge before you use them because I find them to taste better that way.
It should be noted that while Soylent is not made out of people, it does contain soy as one of it’s main ingredients. It’s also worth mentioning that it’s made with GMO sourced ingredients – the company posted a blog in defense of GMO products which you can read here. I agree with their reasoning, but there’s a lot I don’t agree with which I’ll do a post on soon.
